Background Information - Job-specific
The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is the operational resource of the United Nations for procurement and contract management, as well as civil works and physical infrastructure development. It focuses its work on the areas of its mandate established by the General Assembly and its Executive Board, while collaborating with other United Nations agencies, funds and programmes on joint projects.
UNOPS supports local and national governments to maximize the efficiency of public investment, promote transparency, combat corruption and adapt global best practices to each country to strengthen national capacities in the areas of procurement, public infrastructure and project management.
With over 8,000 staff spread across 80 countries, UNOPS provides its partners with the logistical, technical and management expertise they need, where they need it. By implementing around 1,000 projects for our partners, UNOPS makes significant contributions to results in these regions, often in the most challenging environments.
In Latin America and the Caribbean, UNOPS adapts its approach to the local context, providing a wide range of strategic solutions to enhance member countries’ efforts to achieve the priorities of the 2030 Agenda. In addition to its regular activities, it works to preserve and enhance natural, cultural and human resources and reduce disparities such as inequality.
UNOPS Brazil is responsible for managing the strategic and operational risks associated with the project portfolio in the country, developing and providing cost-effective services that contribute to sustainable results for partners and to UNOPS's management results.
In Brazil, UNOPS supports infrastructure (health, rule of law, urban planning, education), health procurement, public-private partnerships, logistics for Brazilian humanitarian aid, social development and human resources for UN sister agencies.
UNOPS Brazil is an integral part of the Multi-Country Desk of Argentina and the regional management structure for Latin America and the Caribbean.
