The Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) is seeking to hire a research assistant/analyst for its Foreign Policy and Security Studies vertical. The candidate will play a vital role in supporting our research initiatives and contributing to the development of innovative thought in the field of international relations and foreign policy, on climate change and energy transitions.

They will work closely with our team of experts and contribute to research projects that inform policy decisions and address critical global climate and energy cooperation challenges.

The focus will be on India’s international climate diplomacy strategies on climate finance, analysing policy around bilateral, multilateral and trilateral engagement, state capacity for climate engagement and global supply chains with a focus on critical minerals.

The candidate is expected to have the ability to conduct thorough literature reviews and synthesise information from various sources. They are also expected to be able to do some programmatic coordination for non-research, programmatic activities.

Educational Background:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in International Relations, Political Science, or a related field is required.

Professional Experience:

  • 0-3 years of relevant experience is preferred, but recent graduates with strong academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Knowledge and Expertise:

  • Strong understanding of international relations theories, geopolitics, and global affairs.
  • A focus or interest in climate and energy issues is highly desirable.
  • Experience with qualitative research and analysis; familiarity with quantitative data analysis is an advantage.

Communication Skills:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to contribute effectively to reports, memos, and presentations.
  • Capable of communicating complex ideas clearly and succinctly to diverse audiences.

Organisational Skills:

  • Meticulous attention to detail, with strong organisational abilities to coordinate events like stakeholder roundtables and interviews.
  • Skilled in handling communications on behalf of a team while maintaining professionalism and clarity.

Teamwork and Motivation:

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team, contributing actively to group efforts and sharing insights.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment where flexibility and initiative are key.
  • Strong time management skills, with the capacity to balance multiple tasks effectively, including research and administrative responsibilities.
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and eager to build relationships with key stakeholders in the research and policy landscape.
  • Flexibility and initiative to take on new challenges and contribute to the growth of the team’s impact.
